Biomechanical Assessments, Postural Analysis, Orthotics and Gait Scanning

Some musculo-skeletal alignment problems result in painful conditions such as trapped nerves, sciatica, low back pain, knee pain, neck pain, headaches, ankle injuries, arthritic pain and soft tissue pain such as tendonitis, corns, callus and tenosynovitis.

WE OFFER IN-DEPTH EXPERT AND UNIQUE BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENTS.

You can opt to have an assessment with one of our Physiotherapists or Podiatrists or with both at once.  We also offer an appointment simultaneously with a Physiotherapist, Osteopath and Podiatrist.

These appointments involve the practitioners firstly conducting a detailed medical history and history of your pain or problem.  This might be a chronic sports injury or acute problem such as heel pain or hip pain, some patients are just worried about their balance or will say something like "I just feel alll wonky" or "I get pain and it is always down my right side".

This is followed by an indepth postural and movement analysis.  There is then a thorough physical examination.

We often then use Physiomapp an application that helps us explain your postural problems to you:

Following your examination we then move to the biomechanics laboratory where we have a complex piece of gait analysis software called Templo.  We apply the information we have acquired from the physical and medical examiation to help us understand what is occuring when you walk or run.

Sometimes we need to look into your foot fall in greater detail to help us determine precise prescription for your problem, we often use pressure plate analysis as an aid to help us explain to you what pressures are occuring within your feet during the gait cycle.  This is particularly useful if you a specific foot problem.

After your biomechanical assessment we explain and discuss our findings with you.  We then come up with a treatment plan that may include manual therapy, home exercise programme, footwear/running shoe advice and sometimes orthoses (insoles).

ORTHOSES

Orthoses are a special type of insole that are designed to limit abnormal stress on your joints and soft tissues by blocking abnormal movements such as excessive in-rolling.  Orthoses can be off the shelf or made to a specific prescription according to biomechanical assessment findings.

orthotics

We only prescribe orthoses if we think you need them.  They are not always the answer.  Usually they are prescribed only as part of a treatment programme that may include, exercise, weightloss, core stability, stretching and footwear advice.  Indeed, we usually scan before an exercise programme and then after the programme has been followed for some weeks; it's amazing how pressure scans can improve after simple changes to a patients exercise routine.

The usual pathway towards an orthosis would be a trial temporary device with regular follow up until we find the prescription formula that works for you.  Only when you are happy with the prescription do we go on to make a permanent device.  We do it this way because we want you to be happy with the end result.

This multiple practititioner approach is great for patients.  You get two brains analysing you and a full discussion and treatment plan.  The practitioners track your progress at regular patient update meetings to ensure that we are constantly improving your treatment.

You will get an expert and honest opinion on your condition and a realistic programme to suit your lifestyle, age, ability and time schedule.
